Description

Food for Special Medical Purposes.

Renastart is a powdered formula for use in the dietary management of kidney disease from birth to 10 years of age.

  1. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by an irreversible deterioration of renal function, which in some cases can lead to end stage kidney disease. Nutritional management of children with CKD requires attention to adequacy of energy and protein intake, fluid balance, electrolyte management, regulation of calcium and phosphate intakes and adequacy of micronutrient intake. Raised serum potassium and phosphate levels are common in children in the later stages of CKD.
  2. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is characterized by a sudden and reversible decline in kidney function leading to an increase in the blood concentration of urea and creatinine and the inability to regulate fluid and electrolyte balance effectively.

Renastart can be used  to help meet a child’s energy and protein requirements whilst limiting potassium and phosphorus intake. This can help a child to achieve an adequate nutritional status, adequate growth and aid serum electrolyte management.

Renastart can be used in both CKD and AKI.
